David Engen
David Engen is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies. Courses taught at EMU include: Interpersonal Communication, Small Group Communication, Listening, Public Speaking, and a graduate course in Communication Theory. He has used academic service-learning in his Small Group Communication course, having students create promotional materials for a local nonprofit organization.

Gary McCombs
Gary B. McCombs is an Associate Professor of Accounting and teaches and researches principally in the area of Accounting Information Systems (AIS). Accounting education, especially AIS education, is the primary research area. He has used academic service-learning in a senior level AIS capstone course in which students design accounting systems for non-profits and also in a sophomore level introductory accounting class in which students helped organizations with their budgeting.

Toni Jones
Toni Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education's Educational Media & Technology program area. She was a Faculty Fellow during Fall 2000 and incorporated an academic service-learning project in her EDMT 330 Instructional Applications of Media and Technology undergraduate class. Five groups of students created technology-related instructional related materials based on the request of the cooperating K-12 teacher. They then taught the K-12 class to also create a technology-related resource. Projects include a hyperstudio photo album of students, newletters and class web page.

Sandy Norton
Sandy Morey Norton is an Associate Professor of English and Women’s Studies at EMU. She received her Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Berkeley. She specializes in teaching Victorian Literature. Her research and teaching in Women’s Studies is focused on the developmental relationships of girls and women.
Norton's primary research interest is in the ways that language both structures experience, creating boundaries and keeping things "separate" and "official," and at the same time allows categories to merge and connect, to defy the official "word."

Michael Schroeder
Michael J. Schroeder is Assistant Professor of History at EMU. He is a specialist in Nicaraguan and Latin American history. He will incorporate academic service- learning into his HIST 317, "History and Geography of Spanish America," in fall 2001.

Giri Jogaratnam
Giri Jogaratnam is coordinator of the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program. His current research interests are focused in the areas of strategic hospitality management and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Jogaratnam incorporated academic service-learning in HRM 430 Seminar in Hospitality Management in the winter term of 2001. This is a capstone course that requires students to bring together and integrate all the courses and experiences they have been exposed to during their program of study. As part of the service-learning assignment, students had to work with a community service agency to identify and resolve functional or process issues related to hospitality and/or foodservices management. In this role, the students were to apply the skills and techniques acquired in class to help streamline activities at a service site.
