Crystal Mills
Crystal Mills is a Professor of Social Work in the College of Health and Human Services. Her research interests include family systems, child welfare, and the evaluation of social service programs. Her AS-L work includes SWK479: Introduction to Social Work Research Methods. Students will meet course objectives by coding and analyzing quantitative data that were collected using an instrument designed by a social service agency, and by gathering and analyzing qualitative information that will assist the agency in refining the data collection instrument.

Christine Hume
Christine Hume is an Assistant Professor of English, specializing in modem
and contemporary American poetry and creative writing. She is integrating ASL
into her general education course, READING OF LITERATURE: AMERICAN POETRY
(Litr 102), which provides students with an overview of American poetry since
1855. The course ends with an extended focus on the varied landscape of
contemporary poetry, and will invite several local poets into the class room
to give readings and discuss their poetry. The course will also require
students to perform one poem from the text anthology on the radio during a
weekly poetry program.

Robert Orrange
Robert M. Orrange is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology. He teaches courses such as Sociology of the Workplace, Introductory Sociology and Marriage & Family. His AS-L work includes Socl 105: Introductory Sociology. In this course, students will be given a broad introduction to the field of sociology, and they will have the opportunity to experience how sociological ideas and concepts can be used to understand real life situations.

Claudia Bennett
Claudia Bennett is a lecturer in the department of Interdisciplinary Technology. She teaches Understanding Technology which exposes students to the social impact of technology. She has also taught courses in the occupational therapy program Her AS-L work will coordinate with the American Humanics program. In this course, students will have the opportunity to assist with the implementation of new technology and learn about the roles and responsibilities of each person involved with this process.

Carla Tayeh
Carla Tayeh is a professor in the Department of Mathematics and teaches undergraduate and graduate level mathematics courses for elementary and middle school pre-service and in-service teachers.

Carla incorporates academic service-learning in her MATH 381 class, Methods for Teaching Elementary School Mathematics. Students complete at least 15 hours of service with a school of their choice. Their assignment is to apply the skills learned in class to provide one-on-one remedial mathematics instruction for an elementary school child. Through small group reflection seminars and learning logs, students investigate how to better assess the child's understanding of mathematical concepts and design developmentally appropriate materials to meet the child's needs.

Nina A. Nabors
Nina A. Nabors is an assistant professor in the psychology department. Her teaching and research interests include the psychology of women, perspectives on prejudice and discrimination, abnormal psychology and rehabilitation psychology. As a joint ASL/American Humanics Fellow her ASL project is for the General Psychology course PSY 101. Students will have the option of mentoring youth at Girls Scouts or Boys and Girls Club to learn about developmental theories, presenting a workshop about the relationship between stress and health for the American Red Cross, or learning first hand about group dynamics and conflict resolution at the YMCA.
